The add-on provides you with instructions and tools to create a monitoring solution in 3 steps:
- Identify key components to monitor and associated alert thresholds
- Use the SDK-based monitoring probes to implement health-checks on your platform
- Integrate the solution with your corporate monitoring framework like Microsoft Operations Manager and IBM Tivoli.
As a "Ready for IBM Tivoli" validated solution, the agent provided for IBM Tivoli Monitoring will allow BusinessObjects Enterprise deployed solutions to be monitored within an IBM Tivoli monitored environment. Systems and solution administrators will now have the ability to view BusinessObjects Enterprise warnings alongside other systems and applications information to provide an overall view of the solution environment. How does it work?
The complete solution relies on the following elements:
System monitoring (memory, CPU etc.) leverages the native capabilities of specialized monitoring tools. The documentation provides guidelines on the BusinessObjects components that should be monitored and alert thresholds when available.
The monitoring probes are a flexible and customizable way to test some basic platform functionalities. They can connect directly to the platform for low-level testing or go through a web interface which then provides a status on the platform and the web layers of the architecture.
The result from the monitoring probes can then be consumed in a market monitoring tool where rules, alerts and actions can be defined and implemented. Although we provide integration with 3 major tools, the output from the probes is open and can be integrated in any other tool or homegrown solution.
The monitoring probes are JAVA based, operating system independent. The solution is very flexible so you may stage the implementation.
