BI Widgets on AIR – April 14, 2008
BI Widgets on AIR is a prototype of an Adobe Air Rich Internet Application that delivers personalized intelligent information for everyone.
With BI Widgets users can quickly and easily search and access BI content and create personal dashboards on their desktop. BI Widgets connects to one or more BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 systems through standard Web services.

BI Widgets delivers BI content to to end users in the form of "desktop widgets." BI Widgets enables enterprise business intelligence to be easily deployed in a very user friendly manner and reduces the number of steps required to access BI information.
Technology Gets Personal
At Symposium/ITxpo 2006, Gartner stated: "We expect that during the next 30 years of this journey, technology will continue to drive further and further into business, but the real transformation will be the way technology reaches individuals and changes the way we work and play. If the last 30 years have been about delivering technology to the enterprise — the next 30 years will be about technology transforming the lives of individuals. Technology is getting personal."
BI Widgets explores some of the ways that this trend towards personalization might impact the delivery and consumption of business intelligence. BI Widgets framework provides the following functionality:
- Search, organize, and view commonly used metrics in a single secure view
- Create desktop widgets from Webi report parts and Xcelsius files
- Access several BI systems internally (Intranet) or externally (Extranet), and aggregate that information into a single personalized view
- Receive RSS feeds and alerts
- Allow users to organize BI content as they would like to see it rather than only using enterprise server folder structures
Platforms Tested
Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4, Mac OS 10.5.x (Leopard), Mac OS 10.4.9 and above (Tiger), on Intel-based and PowerPC based computers.
